‘No Ultimatums’: PS Omollo Declares Nyanza’s 2027 Support for Ruto Built on Delivery, Not Deals

KISUMU, 30th Oct 2026 -Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Raymond Omollo has declared that the Nyanza region is prepared to support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027 without attaching conditions, citing development initiatives undertaken by the Kenya Kwanza administration over the past three years.

Speaking on Friday in Kisumu East Constituency during the commissioning of Manyatta B Police Station, a project funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), Dr Omollo said the government had demonstrated its commitment to equitable development by implementing projects in a region that largely did not support President Ruto during the 2022 General Election.

According to the PS, the administration’s development record should inform political conversations ahead of the next electoral cycle, rather than demands for political concessions.

“We did not put pressure on him to build our roads, to hire our teachers, to resolve or to streamline our health care system. He has done it because that is what good leadership is,” Dr Omollo said.

He maintained that Nyanza’s anticipated support for the President would be based on what the administration had delivered to residents and Kenyans generally, rather than negotiations or conditions imposed by regional political leaders.

Dr Omollo pointed to ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, road construction, teacher recruitment and efforts to improve the healthcare system as evidence of the government’s development agenda in the region.

He further called for peaceful political competition, urging leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“We expect that during this electioneering period as leaders compete for political seats it cannot be the reason why our young people will have to fight against each other, lose lives, and lose property,” he said.

The PS emphasised that every Kenyan should be free to express their political views, adding that the electorate ultimately holds the responsibility of deciding who occupies elective positions.

His remarks come amid growing debate within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over demands for a pre-election agreement with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), outlining the party’s share of positions in a possible post-election government arrangement.

Some ODM officials have maintained that such an agreement is necessary, while the proposal has attracted criticism from sections of the broad-based political arrangement.

Other Kenyans have called on the two parties to resolve their differences through dialogue ahead of the polls.

Dr Omollo’s comments place development performance at the centre of the administration’s engagement with Nyanza, as political discussions surrounding alliances, negotiations and the 2027 elections continue to take shape.

However, the region’s political support in 2027 will ultimately be determined by voters at the ballot.
