Winam Court: Two Arraigned Over Suspected Links to Motor Vehicle Syndicate

WINAM COURT, Kisumu, October 8th – Two individuals, Michael Erick Mwaga and Peter Andai, were arraigned before the Winam Chief Magistrates’ Court today, facing charges related to possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles. The court granted detectives a five-day custodial order to finalize investigations into the matter.

The arrests of Messrs Mwaga and Andai were the result of a successful operation that took place on October 6th.

According to Kisumu County Commissioner Benson Leparmorijo, a contigent of police officers from Migosi and Kasagam Police Stations conducted a meticulously coordinated, intelligence-led operation in Khayeko Junction and Aliwa Village within Kisumu East Sub-County.

The operation led to the recovery of eleven suspected stolen vehicles, along with other exhibits, including car radios, vehicle registration plates, and assorted spare parts.

During the operation, the two suspects were apprehended, and a search of one of the targeted homesteads yielded additional evidence.

The recovered vehicles and exhibits have been secured at Migosi Police Station, and the process of verifying ownership is currently underway.

In a follow-up report made earlier today, Mr Dan Njoka, OCS Kasagam police station, said another suspected motor vehicle, a Toyota Voxy, was also recovered from a rented house at the main suspect’s place, Mr Evans Otieno Meda, at Khayeko area and detained at Migosi police station.

Further, Mr Dan Njoka said a request letter for ownership verification by NTSA was done, and the report indicated that out of 12 cars now detained, only one car belongs to the main suspect, Evans Otieno Meda, while the remaining cars bear the names of persons from outside Kisumu County.

Law enforcement officers are working to track down and bring to justice the remaining members of the syndicate, with the suspects currently assisting with the investigation.
