Migori Stadium’s 10,000-Seater is Progressively Taking Shape, Says Interior Security PS Raymond Omollo

MIGORI, Kenya, 17th November –The 10,000-capacity Migori Stadium is making steady progress as work continues on the northern, eastern, and VIP wing structures to meet the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards for the pitch.

Estimated to cost Sh700 million, the seating terraces are being developed, and red soil is being laid on the football pitch in preparation for turfing.

Construction began in July 2025, and the stadium will feature a standard football pitch, a VIP pavilion, and a running track, transforming it into a modern sports arena. It will also include a basketball court, gymnasium, and other amenities for the local community.

According to Interior Security and National Coordination Permanent Secretary (PS) Dr Raymond Omollo, the talent-rich Nyanza Region has endured neglect in sports infrastructure for years, forcing many promising athletes to train and compete in inadequate facilities.

Under the Bottoms Up Economic Transformative Agenda (BETA), the trend is now changing with President William Ruto’s intentional investment in sports and talent development.

During his tour of Migori County earlier this year, Dr Ruto pledged to upgrade the sporting facilities for local leaders and residents.

“This seeks to nurture youth potential and spur regional growth through modern infrastructure,” PS Omollo says, adding that the project has become a livelihood source for the local community.

Through collaboration between the national and county governments, over 207 workers, mostly youth and women from the area, have been engaged on-site, earning income and gaining valuable skills.

Following a successful bidding process in mid-May, Sports Kenya awarded the construction contract to Royal Contractors Limited, with the project expected to last for a year.

Upon completion, the stadium will not only host local and national events but will also serve as the home ground for notable clubs such as Migori Youth FC, competing in the second tier of FKF National Super League (FKF-NSL), and Migori United FC, among others.
