KISUMU, 13th Sept 2026 – Awendo Academy and Plateau Queens are the Safaricom Chapa Dimba Nyanza Regional Champions for Season Five after commanding victories at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium, Mamboleo, in Kisumu.
In the boys’ final, Awendo Academy thrashed St. Peters Wagai – the Indomitable Soldiers – 4-0 in a one-sided affair, while two-time defending champions Plateau Queens of Nyakach Girls showed their class with an identical 4-0 rout of Hedso Queens to retain their regional crown.
According to Awendo captain Ronny Ochieng, they really worked hard to win.
“We made it because we are a team composed of young players who have been playing together for quite a long time,” he said during a post-match interview.
His coach Dennis said that they have been runners-up on two occasions, and God’s time prevailed.
Indomitable Soldiers attributed their loss to fatigue and promised to bounce back.
Both champions pocketed Sh250,000 each, while runners-up Wagai Soldiers and Hedso Queens took home Sh150,000 each.
Awendo Academy and Plateau Queens will now fly the Nyanza flag at the National Finals in Nairobi, where the ultimate prize of Sh1,000,000 and the coveted national title will be up for grabs.
