Kisumu East Mp Hon Shakeel Shabbir Apologizes to Teachers After KNUT, KUPPET and Viral Dress Down
KOLWA CENTRAL, Kisumu East July 13th– Embattled Kisumu East Member of Parliament Shakeel Ahmed Shabbir has publicly apologised to teachers at St Peter’s Kindu Secondary School after a video of him reprimanding them over poor performance went viral.
“I acted out of anger, but my goal is to uplift education,” Shabbir admitted during a church service in Kolwa Central today.
“To every teacher who felt disrespected, I offer my unreserved apology.
Shabbir, who has been serving the area since 2007, acknowledged the crucial role teachers played in his own life, saying, “They shaped who I am today, and my emotions got the best of me.”
His outburst drew sharp criticism from teachers’ unions (KUPPET and KNUT), who demanded a public apology within 24 hours, a demand he swiftly met.

But beyond the apology, Shabbir promised to allocate additional funds for extra remedial classes at Kindu School ahead of exams in October.
He also pledged to address systemic issues, including delayed bursaries and poor infrastructure, vowing: “We must secure both short-term fixes and long-term solutions for our schools.”

The viral clip had sparked outrage, with many accusing him of humiliation tactics but his quick apology and commitment to collaboration have shifted the conversation.
“Let’s work together for the sake of our children’s future,” Shabbir appealed.
As the backlash cools, the focus now turns to whether his promises will translate into real change or if this was just a damage control tactic.
