KISUMU BUS PARK, Kisumu, August 12th –Kisumu Senator Prof Tom Ojienda has donated Sh500,000 to Kisumu bus park traders for rebuilding and compensation after a fire inferno which gutted their shops last week.
The incident left 45 businessmen and women in shock after losing goods close to Sh12 million, which authorities revealed was a result of a power fault that later swept several stalls, as goods burned into ashes.
During his address to the traders at the bus park today, Prof Ojienda said that he will work together with other leaders to help them rise again and begin the construction of their stalls soon.
The lawmaker who had declared his interest in the Kisumu County gubernatorial seat in the forthcoming 2027 general elections, urged his voters to remain calm until the campaign period.
Prof Ojienda hailed the development transformation agenda that has been driven by the Kenya Kwanza government since its merger with the Raila Odinga-led ODM party, while drumming support for President William Ruto’s two-term bid.
He further lauded the government’s move to compensate victims of the recent protests after several months of talks with the National government on the 10-point agenda.
“I urge all the victims in Kisumu County to report to my office for further clarification on how they will be compensated,” Prof Ojienda said.
He was flanked by Market Milimani Ward MCA Seth Ochieng Kanga who assured the traders of their strong support to ensure they get back to their business roots.
Hon Kanga announced that Kisumu County Governor Prof Anyang Nyong’o has donated 540 iron sheets to help build the destroyed stalls, with Kisumu Central Area Member of Parliament Dr Joshua Oron donating 100 iron sheets.
