TOKYO, Japan, September 15th – Edmund Serem showcased his stellar athleticism, claiming a bronze medal in the men’s 3000m Steeplechase with a powerful finish time of 8:34.56 at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.
This impressive performance marks Kenya’s third podium finish in the championship, joining Beatrice Chebet’s gold in the 10,000 meters and Peris Jepchirchir’s gold in the women’s marathon, showcasing the nation’s dominance in distance running.
In an electrifying climax, New Zealand’s Geordie Beamish made history by seizing the gold medal with a time of 8:15.98, outpacing defending champion Soufiane El Bakkali from Morocco, who took silver with a strong effort of 8:33.95.
This ended Bakkali’s incredible streak of four consecutive major titles.
Beamish, demonstrating tactical finesse, maneuvered through the pack, maintaining perfect positioning.
With just 30 meters to go, he unleashed a breathtaking sprint down the outside, reminiscent of his powerful 1500m victory at last year’s world indoor championships.
It was a monumental day for New Zealand, celebrating their first-ever gold in a men’s track event at the World Championships.
Notably, Kenya’s Olympic medalist Abraham Kibiwott faced a setback, registering a DNF in this exhilarating steeplechase. (Photo Courtesy)
