Trade Unionist Chadwick Oloti Eulogised As A Fireless Fighter for Workers’ Interest

MUMIAS EAST, Kakamega, October -Trade unionists from the Western region have poured tributes on the late Nyanza regional branch secretary of the Kenya Hotel and Allied Workers Union (KHAWU), Chadwick Oloti.


The officials described the late Oloti as a dedicated unionist who stood for the rights of workers in western Kenya and the country at large. He was buried at his home in Mumias East during a solemn ceremony that was attended by several trade unionists.


The Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation Workers (KUSP), Francis Wangara, said he knew the late Oloti as a fearless fighter for the rights of workers whom he represented.


He called on other unionists to emulate Oloti so that they could lift trade unionism to the next level.

Wangara said the late Oloti adopted an uncompromising stand against rogue employers which earned him a lot of respect from those he represented.


“The late Oloti was always at the court corridors fighting for his members until his death” he said.

Oloti’s deputy, Mr Erick Ngame, described him as a dependable boss who stood with them and for them. He said the late Oloti stood with workers until his demise.
Others in attendance, included Wycliffe Sava Mundu General Secretary of Kenya Hotels and Allied Workers Union, Joseph Consima.

Mr Mundu said he had lost a very trusted lieutenant in the trade union movement.
He urged other unionists to emulate the late Oloti’s honesty and dedication to work.
