NAIROBI, Kenya – Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen has established three new service delivery coordination units in Nairobi and promoted several County Commissioners across the country.
This comprehensive restructuring initiative aims to improve public service delivery, following the recently concluded Jukwaa La Usalama public forums held nationwide.
In a gazette notice issued on Thursday, November 12, CS Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to bringing services closer to citizens through intentional decentralisation and enhanced efficiency.
“It demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to streamline operations within the National Government Administration for the benefit of the Kenyan populace,” he said.
Nairobi’s New Subregion
To address the needs of the capital city, which has a population estimated at over five million, the government has created three new subregions in Nairobi.
The newly formed Service Delivery Coordination Units include Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West, aimed at better serving the ever-growing urban population.
As part of these efforts, the following officials have been promoted and appointed to oversee the subregions: Rose Wanjiru Chege (Nairobi West Subregion), Patrick Simiyu Werre (Nairobi East Subregion), and Simon Odhiambo Osumba (Nairobi North Subregion).
CS Murkomen has further directed that these appointees will report directly to the Regional Commissioner for the Nairobi Region.

In addition to establishing the subregions, CS Murkomen has promoted and assigned the following officials to the role of County Commissioner: Joseph Mwangi Wamuti (Tana River), Linda Adhiambo Okola (Taita Taveta), David Ntawuasa Saruni (West Pokot), Michael Yator (Kajiado), Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru (Kericho), and Peter Mwangi Maina (Vihiga).
The transfer of serving County Commissioners to various new positions took into account their strengths and experiences.
With these changes taking immediate effect, this decision addresses various security and service delivery concerns raised by citizens during the Jukwaa La Usalama public forums.
