PS Omollo: New Sovereign Wealth Fund Will Secure Kenya’s Natural Resources for Future Generations

GEM,11th July 2026-Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo has hailed President William Ruto’s assent to the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act as a landmark achievement that will transform how Kenya manages revenues from its natural resources.

Speaking on Saturday during a Women Empowerment Forum in Gem Ramula, Siaya County, Dr Omollo said the new law establishes a comprehensive framework for prudent management of resource revenues, ensuring both current and future generations benefit from the exploitation of national assets.

For many years, we were exploiting our resources, but we could not account for those resources in the manner that we are going to do going forward,” Dr. Omollo stated.

The PS emphasized that the legal framework would enhance transparency and accountability while building investor confidence in Kenya’s resource-based development projects.

“Out of those resources, we must set aside a given percentage to look into the welfare of those generations that will come after us,” reiterated Dr Omollo.

He noted that attracting private investment was critical as government resources alone could not meet all development needs.

“As we attract those private investments, we must make sure that the resources and the money that we get out of those resources makes a difference in the lives of our people,” Dr Omollo said.

The Interior PS revealed that the government has operationalised more than 1,800 administrative units since President Ruto assumed office, including new locations and sub-locations in Siaya County.

He said the expansion had brought government services closer to citizens, making it easier for residents to access national identity cards and other essential services.

Dr Omollo urged residents to take advantage of ongoing voter registration exercises, noting that the Nyanza region had potential to register close to one million new voters.

In this region, we have an opportunity to register close to one million new voters, so that when the rest of the country will be electing President Ruto, the people of Siaya will join them to give the President a second term,” he said.

Dr Omollo further lauded women for their contribution to economic growth and reaffirmed government commitment to supporting women empowerment initiatives through entrepreneurship and financial inclusion programmes.

He called for unity and collective participation in development programmes, noting that sustainable progress could only be achieved when citizens and government worked together to advance shared goals.
