KISUMU, Kenya –Rodgers Okeya has officially entered the Kisumu County gubernatorial race for 2027, bringing with him his background as an Auditor in the office of the Auditor General and his experience as a businessman.
His campaign aims to empower youths through job creation and to transform Kisumu via a model he calls economic patriotism, rooted in integrity, justice, and dedication to work.
Okeya emphasised that focused efforts on these three pillars could lead to significant county development.
“I believe and am sure that if we work around the three agenda, we will together transform Kisumu county to a better county in the country,” he said.
Okeya encouraged the youths to take the opportunity to register as voters and to have their voter cards at hand, as he promised to ensure every youth is entitled to jobs and introduced to job markets in and outside the country.
“Most youths have been misused in the last elections as a tool to cause chaos before, during and even after elections, and I now call upon all the youths, let’s change the narrative, let’s say NO to politics of chaos and build ourselves first,” he further said.
Expressing his condolences, Okeya mourned the passing of veteran journalist and Mayienga FM radio head Festus Amimo, describing him as an icon and a role model whose loss is deeply felt across the media fraternity, community, and youth in Kisumu.

He extended his sympathies to Amimo’s family, friends, and relatives, and promised to collaborate with other leaders and the media to ensure a dignified send-off for the late journalist.
Okeya’s entry now adds to the existing contenders who have hit the ground running such as legislators Prof Tom Ojienda (Kisumu County Senator), Dr Joshua Oron (Kisumu Central MP), Rut Odinga (Kisumu County Woman Rep), Aduma Owuor (Nyakach MP), Rosa Buyu (Kisumu West MP), Kisumu County Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili, and former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura.
