Stephen Nyandiare: The Emerging Voice in Kisumu Senatorial Race

Kisumu, 18th Feb. 2026-As the 2027 political season slowly begins to take Stephen shape, a new voice is emerging in Kisumu’s senatorial race.

Stephen Ochieng Nyandiare is steady in the contest for the Kisumu Senatorial seat, positioning himself as a grassroots mobilizer with a strong connection to youth, women traders, and vulnerable families across the county.

Speaking during a community forum in Kisumu, Nyandiare said his decision to vie was driven by what he described as “a calling to serve.”

“I have walked with the people of Kisumu in their daily struggles. This is not about politics for me. It is about representation, dignity, and ensuring that our youth, our mothers in the markets, and our widows are not forgotten,” said Nyandiare, a trained international lawyer with jurisdiction in the Commonwealth.

Nyandiare, who has built his profile through charitable initiatives across the county, says his work on the ground has prepared him for national leadership.

Over the past few years, he has supported small-scale women traders with seed capital, organised mentorship forums for young people, and assisted widows with housing and basic needs support.

“I identify deeply with the youth because I understand what it means to grow up without privilege,” he said.

“Opportunities are scarce, but talent is everywhere in Kisumu. What our young people need is support, structure, and someone to speak for them at the national level.”

Women traders in several markets have echoed similar sentiments.

Jane Achieng, a fish vendor in Kisumu, described Nyandiare as accessible and consistent.

“He does not just come during election season,” she said. “He has been supporting women’s groups and listening to our challenges. That is why many of us believe he can represent our interests.”

Nyandiare often speaks about his upbringing as the foundation of his leadership philosophy.

He lost his father at a tender age and was raised by his mother, an experience he says shaped his resilience and compassion.

“My mother taught me strength and responsibility,” he said. “After losing my father, I saw firsthand the struggles widows go through. That is why supporting widows is very personal to me. It is not a campaign strategy; it is my life story.”

According to his close associates, Nyandiare’s charitable footprint spans various parts of Kisumu County, from educational support for needy students to emergency assistance for struggling families.

Community organiser Peter Otieno described him as “a leader who believes service should come before titles.”

“He has been on the ground long before this season,” Otieno said.

“For him, this senatorial bid is a continuation of the work he has already started.”

As the 2027 race begins to attract attention, Nyandiare says his campaign will focus on inclusive economic growth, youth empowerment, and the protection of small businesses.

“Kisumu deserves leadership that listens and acts,” he said. “If given the opportunity, I will be a senator who is present, accountable, and firmly rooted in the people.”

With nearly two years to the polls, Stephen Ochieng Nyandiare is betting that his grassroots record and personal story will resonate with voters seeking a relatable and service-driven leader.
