We Will Conduct Free, Fair and Verifiable 2027 Polls, IEBC Assures

NAIROBI, 2 Sept 2026 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured Kenyans that the General Election slated for August 10, 2027 will be free, fair, credible and verifiable.

IEBC Chairman Erastus Ethekon said the Commission is keen on delivering a peaceful election that will strengthen Kenya’s democracy, noting that this will require close collaboration with stakeholders and extraordinary measures.

“Our country is as strong as the institutions, values, principles and people we have. As we move to the 2027 general election, be reminded that this election will test our collective preparedness,” Ethekon said during a High-Level National Election Security Roundtable in Nairobi.

He said the Commission has gazetted the election period and published the electoral timelines and roadmap to guide preparations.

Justice Daniel Musinga, Judge of the Court of Appeal and Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee on Elections, said the Judiciary will ensure electoral disputes are resolved independently, impartially and expeditiously, and will prioritize criminal cases related to violence, intimidation, bribery and destruction of electoral materials.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said the police have developed a comprehensive election security plan whose implementation will run from September 2026 beyond the 2027 polls, focusing on coordination, training and deployment.

Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan, who chairs the Election Security and Electoral Risks Management Committee, said the Commission relies on security agencies for enforcement and is implementing the Election Security Arrangement Programme (ESAP) anchored on early warning, prevention, monitoring and rapid response.

He said the Commission has conducted 32 by-elections in the last one year with 100 percent accuracy, demonstrating system readiness for 2027, and appealed to politicians to accept results with humility.

Commission Secretary and CEO Ruth Kulundu said electoral integrity depends on a secure environment, with a key deliverable being the training of 200,000 police officers and special police officers to be deployed during the election.
