KERICHO, Sept 2026 – President William Ruto has dismissed the opposition as lacking plans, policies and vision, accusing them of offering Kenyans slogans and insults instead of development ideas.
The President said the United Alternative Government (UAG) cannot mount a formidable challenge against him in the 2027 General Election, and dared them to prepare for an issue-based campaign.
Speaking during a development tour of Kericho County, Dr Ruto told his critics to “come out of their humble abodes” and witness the transformation his administration is undertaking across the country.
“These men are misleading the nation. They should come to the ground and see how markets are growing. This world is changing fast. Our children are studying. Is it true or not?” he posed.
He accused the opposition of being disunited and preoccupied with endless seminars and retreats.
“That unity was lost. They tried again with an alternative government. For you to have an alternative government, you must have alternative ideas, a plan and an agenda. Those people don’t have an alternative to anything. They have also lost that. Now they have returned to the ground calling it lies,” he said.
“The opposition cannot run an opposition, nor can they manage an alternative government. They have nothing to offer this country except name-calling, slogans and insults. They cannot develop an inch of Kenya because they are clueless. They are planless, rudderless and visionless,” he added.
President Ruto highlighted what he termed as deliberate investments to tackle unemployment, noting that his administration has so far created 1.1 million jobs through the Affordable Housing Programme, 300,000 digital jobs and 680,000 overseas jobs through bilateral labour agreements.
In Kericho, he launched the construction of the Chelimo Special Economic Zone which will host business process outsourcing, agro-industry in food and animal feeds, veterinary medicines, medical devices and equipment, light agricultural machinery, biotechnology in natural products, and pharmaceuticals. He said business process outsourcing alone will create more than 10,000 jobs for youth in Kericho and beyond.
He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 2,280-unit Chelimo Affordable Housing Project (AHP), which will cost Sh5.9 billion.
Earlier in Bomet County, the President launched the construction of the Chebunyo Amsons Mother and Baby Hospital, a 250-bed Level 4 facility that will offer antenatal services, labour and delivery care, maternity and obstetric intensive care, postnatal services, newborn and neonatal intensive care, dedicated theatres, an isolation unit and a mothers’ hostel.
The facility is one of 10 mother and baby hospitals being developed through a $35 million (Sh4.5 billion) grant from the Amsons Group under the Mama na Mtoto Kwanza Initiative.
“We are doing this to ensure that no woman loses her life while giving life, every child gets a fair start, and no family has to travel long distances, exhaust its savings or suffer preventable loss in search of maternal and newborn healthcare,” Ruto said.
He added that the investment complements ongoing health sector reforms, including the construction of 15 new Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals and the recruitment of 5,000 additional nurses and midwives.
The President later inaugurated the Sh5.6 billion Kabianga University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, whose first phase comprises the School of Medicine, School of Nursing, a central e-learning library, lecture theatres and administration facilities.
