KISUMU, 13th Sept 2026-Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo has declared that Luo Nyanza residents will reject violence in their political engagements, underscoring a shift in the region’s political discourse during an engagement with grassroots leaders.
Speaking during the meeting with stakeholders from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori counties, hosted by President William Ruto in Kisumu on Sunday, Dr Omollo described the gathering as unprecedented, noting it brought together leaders from all walks of life to articulate their development concerns directly to the Head of State.
“This is something that for a very long time has never happened in this region,” Dr Omollo said, adding that the engagement allowed professionals and grassroots leaders to share their issues while listening to both the Head of State and their elected leaders.
The PS echoed sentiments by Homabay Senator Otieno Kajwang, who remarked that he had long believed only a Luo president could deliver such benefits to the region.
“Today, you have disabused that notion that a Luo must be president, or even deputy president, for people from this region to benefit from what everybody else deserves,” Dr Omollo stated.
The Interior PS affirmed his confidence in President Ruto’s commitment to the region, saying the President has demonstrated genuine interest since assuming office.
“You did it from day one, without coercion, without any push,” he said, noting that projects set for commissioning began during the President’s first days in office.
He emphasised that the developmental focus extends beyond Luo Nyanza to every corner of the Republic.
The meeting followed a church service attended by President Ruto, marking the start of a four-day working tour during which he will launch and inspect completed and ongoing development projects across the Lake region counties.
Dr Omollo reiterated the community’s commitment to peaceful political engagement, stating, “We will not use violence to transact our politics.”
The tour signals renewed engagement between the national government and the Lake Region.
