KITALE, Kenya – July 25, 2025 –Soy United FC’s long-awaited promotion to the FKF National Super League for the 2025/26 season has finally been confirmed following a delay caused by a contentious appeal filed by rivals Gucha Stars.
The appeal, which had cast uncertainty over Soy United’s fate, stemmed from allegations that the team fielded an ineligible player during the just-concluded FKF Men Division One League campaign.
Gucha Stars, who had been battling Soy United closely in the promotion race, challenged the legitimacy of Soy United’s results by submitting a formal appeal to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
The appeal prompted an investigation into player eligibility and temporarily held up the official promotion announcement.
However, after thorough deliberation, the FKF Disciplinary Committee found Gucha Stars themselves guilty of fielding an ineligible player and subsequently docked them three points.
With the adjusted standings, Soy United’s position at the top was upheld, and their promotion was ratified on sporting merit.
In a recent official letter by FKF Secretary General and CEO Harold Ndege formally congratulated Soy United FC on their promotion, emphasising the team’s hard work, fair play, and discipline throughout the season.
The federation also extended commendation to the players, technical bench, management, and the loyal fanbase that supported the team through a challenging season.
“Soy United FC have indeed shown that by working hard, playing fair and showing discipline in our competitive FKF Men Division One League, a team can register success,” read part of the FKF letter addressed to the club’s chairperson.
The federation’s communication also served as a broader statement reinforcing the importance of integrity and due process in Kenyan football.
While Soy United’s promotion was momentarily clouded by controversy, the eventual outcome reaffirmed their rightful place in the second tier of Kenyan football.
With the dispute now settled, Soy United FC can finally shift their focus to preparing for the upcoming 2025/26 FKF National Super League season. The club is expected to bolster its squad and infrastructure as it embarks on this next chapter of its football journey.
The saga serves as a reminder of the high stakes in promotion battles and the crucial role governance and compliance play in maintaining the credibility of the game.
