CAF Unveils Modern Technology to Enhance Multilingual Media Services

CAIRO, Egypt, 21st August –The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled smart and advanced technological innovation to provide multilingual media services for the first time during press conferences at the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), PAMOJA 2024.

Dubbed Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI), it continues to enable accredited media to adequately cover the historic tourney held in Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.

A first of its kind in CAF history, journalists attending media interviews can speedily access real-time audio interpretation in several languages through a special QR code using their own mobile phones and earphones.

RSI eliminates the use of heavy receivers and headsets, but makes use of their phone’s web browsers.

Under the stewardship of CAF’s Communications Division Head Luxolo September, and executed by the Language Services Unit, led by Patrice Godonou, has enlisted professional interpreters who are in charge of the language channels.

“This is a transformational step for how CAF supports the media and positions CAF among the world’s most innovative sports organisations in terms of language access,” said Luxolo today.

He added that with this modern technology, journalists will never miss any information due to language barriers.

“This reflects our commitment to innovation, inclusion, and ensuring African football speaks to every corner of the continent and the world.”

“It is simple, cost-effective and above all, accessible, allowing journalists to follow proceedings without the need for complicated on-site equipment,” added Godonou.

They added that this initiative shows the continental football organisation’s wider commitment to innovation and inclusion in African football.

In addition to RIS, CAF has enhanced other media services for PAMOJA 2024, such as improved Wi-Fi access and digital content distribution.

Over 800 accredited journalists covering the event also benefit from extended matchday media operations.

With successful co-hosting, the quarter finals duels are slated on Friday 22 and August 23 respectively.
