Kisumu East Police Arrest Five with Vandalised KPLC Electric Cables

KISUMU EAST, Kenya, October 23rd –Police officers in Kisumu East sub-county arrested five suspects on Wednesday, 22nd October, believed to be responsible for vandalism and theft of Kenya Power electricity cables, following complaints from local residents.

Acting on a tip-off, Kisumu East Sub-County OCPD Mr Edward Wafula said police, led by the OCS at Gita Police Station, conducted a raid in the Kager Aredo area within Gita, where they apprehended the five individuals in their hiding place.

“The suspects attempted to escape on foot but were overwhelmed by a large police presence, which subdued and arrested them,” Mr Edward Wafula further noted.

He also confirmed that during the operation, police recovered approximately 600 meters of vandalised electricity cables.

The suspects include Stephen Okok Ngeso, aged 30; Kevin Omondi, aged 29; Fredrick Onyango Mboo, aged 30; Joseph Otieno Juma, aged 34; and Ayub Ochieng Odhiambo, aged 20.

The suspects were detained at Gita police station awaiting to be collected by police officers attached to Kisumu KPLC office who had been informed that the 600 metres of cable kept as exhibit.
