Migori, May 2026-Police in Migori County have arrested a man found in illegal possession of a firearm during a FKF National Super League match piting Migori Youth FC and Equity Bank FC at the SONY Green Stadium in Awendo.
The suspect, identified as Godfrey Otieno alias ‘Daddy’, allegedly attempted to force his way into the VIP dais while the match was in progress. Security officers on duty intercepted him before he could access the restricted area.
According to police, the suspect resisted arrest and drew a pistol as officers moved to restrain him. Officers quickly overpowered him, disarmed him and restored order before the situation could escalate into chaos.
During a search, police recovered a CZ pistol loaded with ten rounds of ammunition from the suspect. Investigations further revealed that Otieno had presented himself as a member of the Kenya Defence Forces, a claim authorities say was false and intended to gain undue access to the VIP section.

Preliminary investigations established that the firearm was registered to one Peter Odhiambo, a licensed civilian firearm holder. Odhiambo reportedly arrived at the stadium shortly after the incident and told police he had handed the weapon to Otieno, which led to his immediate arrest for allegedly allowing an unauthorized person to possess a firearm.
Both suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing. They are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. The recovered pistol has been secured as an exhibit in the ongoing probe.
Police have warned the public against lending firearms to unlicensed persons and said they will enhance security screening at sporting events to prevent similar incidents.
