NAIROBI, Kenya, September – In a historic move set to redefine the landscape of Kenyan football, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and gaming firm SportPesa have officially launched the SportPesa League season for 2025/26.
The season which is slated to begin on September 20th, will see a monumental increase in prize money, designed to elevate competitiveness and reward excellence at the highest level.
The champions will secure Sh15 million, the runners-up will be awarded Sh3 million, and the second runners-up will take home Sh2 million.
The announcement, made at a signing ceremony in a Nairobi hotel, marks a significant turning point for the league, which has long awaited a sponsorship package of this magnitude.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed lauded the initiative, emphasizing that this new chapter is anchored on accountability, professionalism, and a steadfast commitment to restoring pride in the Kenyan game.
“For the first time in years, our league champions will be rewarded with prize money befitting a premier competition,” President Hussein stated.

“This investment is more than just funding; it is a powerful motivator for our clubs and players. It sets the stage for a more competitive, vibrant, and sustainable league that can stand tall among Africa’s best.”
The country’s football governing body extended its gratitude to SportPesa for its belief in Kenyan football and issued a call to action to other corporations.
“I call on more corporate partners to join hands with us as we build our league into one of the most vibrant and widely followed competitions in Africa,” he alpealed.
SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri reaffirmed the company’s commitment to being a true partner in the sport’s growth, not just a sponsor.
“We are coming here as partners and focusing more on how to promote football and package it well for the fans,” Karauri remarked.

He added that: “Our football has got a great potential and, we want to be at the forefront of the journey to restoring the game’s glory.”
Karauri expressed confidence that through this collaboration, the stakeholders would successfully “rebuild and strengthen our league, our clubs, and our talent.”
This development formalizes the landmark 10-year sponsorship agreement worth Sh 1.12 billion that was first announced on Thursday, July 31st, 2025.

The structure of the deal ensures 60 percent of the total sponsorship amount being disbursed directly to FKF Premier League clubs as grants.
The remaining 40 percent will be dedicated to enhancing the administrative and operational aspects of the competition, a crucial investment for ensuring the league runs seamlessly and remains sustainable for the long term.
“This funding is essential for building a professional framework that supports the players and the product on the pitch,” the agreement states in part.
