SHAURI YAKO VILLAGE, Koru, September 17th – Shock and grief have engulfed Nyando Mixed Secondary School and the surrounding community following the tragic death of a male Form Three student, whose body was discovered this morning at 3 am.
The victim, Washington Omondi Opuka, age 17, known as Apu, was fatally stabbed multiple times by a known assailant who is still at large.
The incident took place in Shauri Yako village, within the Koru location of Muhoroni-Koru Ward, Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu.

In a revealing phone conversation with Eyes Watch, Ms Rose Atieno Owino, the victim’s sister, provided harrowing details of the attack.
She witnessed a man named Vincent Odhiambo,20, stab her younger brother during a violent altercation at their residence.
“I saw him stab him on the hand, right rib, heart, and back during the fighting at our place. I made numerous distress calls, and they ran away into the darkness with a woman known as ‘Dota,’” she recounted.
The chaotic episode was triggered by Vincent’s pursuit of his lover, leading to the fatal confrontation which had woken Ms Owino up.
The motive behind my brother’s brutal murder appears to be rooted in a love triangle that had taken a dangerous turn. This was a relationship gone sour,” she lamented.
Local authorities responded to the scene and arrived around 6:30 AM to retrieve the body.
A resident, who asked to remain anonymous, disclosed that the suspect, Vincent, had completed his KCSE at the same school just last year.

“The girl involved is Benetesia Stacy Akinyi, 18, who had previously dropped out of Nyando Mixed Secondary School, and it was a love triangle” the residents confirmed.
Efforts to contact the area Officer Commanding Station (OCS) for further comments were unsuccessful, as his phone went unanswered.
Meanwhile, the victim’s body has been taken to St. Vincent Mortuary in Muhoroni, while law enforcement agencies continue their manhunt for the perpetrator and any accomplices involved.
