Greening Nairobi: Governor Sakaja Steers Clean-Up Initiative to Strengthen Green Army’s Mission

NAIROBI, Kenya, September 15th-Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson spearheaded a significant clean-up operation in the Central Business District (CBD) on Sunday night, mobilising the county’s Green Army to continue their vital efforts in maintaining the city’s cleanliness.

He expressed his gratitude to the over 4,000 Green Army personnel who work in shifts across various city sections, ensuring that garbage is collected and streets are kept tidy. Despite facing criticism, the team has remained dedicated to its mandate.

Many discouraged me from confirming these workers to permanent and pensionable terms, suggesting that it would lead to complacency, but the Green Army has proven them wrong. They deserve these jobs, and I encourage them to continue to defy the naysayers,” Governor Sakaja stated.

Once operational, this entity will oversee modern, structured waste collection and disposal, providing a sustainable solution to Nairobi’s ongoing garbage crisis.

The city boss reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a clean, safe, and dignified city, emphasising the integral role of the Green Army in this transformation.
