The County Executive Committee Members (CECM) for Gender, Youth, Sports, Culture and Social Services, Hon. Ann Desma, has called for an urgent young women empowerment initiative in Vihiga County.
Speaking in a meeting of the executive committee members on June 17th, she highlighted the critical issue of young women struggling to cater for their children during the crucial early years.
“Lack of empowerment in young women is a significant factor in Vihiga County that has challenged the community,” said Desma.
Desma emphasised the importance of empowering young women to provide them with opportunities for better lives and futures.

She stressed, that by doing so, young women will be better equipped to care for their children during the critical 0-1000 days, ensuring they receive the best start in life.
“Empowering young women is not only beneficial for their children but also for society as a whole. When women are empowered, they are more likely to contribute to their communities, pursue their dreams and break the cycle of poverty,” said Desma.
Furthermore, she stressed not only supporting local communities but also called out partners to be part of the empowerment.
