KISUMU, Kenya July 28 –In a swift response, the Kisumu East police officers have arrested five suspects linked to the brutal attack of Kisumu-based journalist Kepher Otieno at his home in Nyamasaria, Kisumu East Sub-County, on July 25.
The gang of unidentified assailants stormed his residence, broke down the steel door, and launched a series of bodily assaults on his son and brother.
Acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, the police launched an investigation into the incident and mounted a raid on the suspects’ hideout along the banks of the River Auji.
The operation led to the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of a Honda motorcycle used during the attack, along with various crude weapons, including three pangas, a knife, and an imitation toy gun.
The suspects are currently in custody at Kasagam Police Station pending processing and arraignment before the court.
The heinous attack, which occurred at around 2 am, left the Mediamax journalist seriously injured and is currently receiving treatment at one of the lakeside hospitals.
Kepher recounted the terrifying experience: “They broke into the house, ransacked everything, and stole two televisions and two laptops… They descended on me with crude weapons, targeting my head. As the thugs were scampering away for safety, I overheard one of them, who was keeping vigil outside, inquiring from his colleagues whether they had ” finished me.”
The Kisumu East OCPD, Mr Edward Wafula, confirmed that operations to eradicate criminals within the area are currently ongoing.
This development brings hope for speedy justice as several leaders and the media fraternity have roundly condemned the incident whose motives remain unknown.
