91.94kg of cannabis recovered in Homa Bay, busts made in Nairobi and Mombasa bus terminals
NAIROBI, August 2026-Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU)have intensified operations against drug trafficking, arresting three suspects in separate intelligence-led raids in Homa Bay, Nairobi, and Mombasa.
In Homa Bay County, a joint team from DCI ANU Homa Bay and Oyugis Police Station arrested Carren Adhiambo Akoth. She had been on the run since June 14, 2026, when detectives recovered 91.94 kilograms of cannabis valued at approximately Sh2.76 million from her residence in Oyugis.
According to DCI, the suspect went into hiding after the seizure. However, detectives maintained surveillance and, acting on actionable intelligence, tracked her to her hideout where she was arrested. She is set to be arraigned on charges related to narcotics trafficking.
In a separate operation in Nairobi, detectives from DCI ANU Isiolo arrested Ramadhan Wache, a booking clerk at a bus company office. The suspect, who had been hiding in Eastleigh, is linked to a consignment of suspected narcotics intercepted at Archers Post checkpoint on August 5, 2026. He was escorted to Isiolo Police Station and is being processed ahead of arraignment.
Meanwhile, in Mombasa, detectives responded after the management of a bus company reported that a sack declared to contain dried cassava had split open during offloading. Inside, officers found 15 packages of suspected cannabis cleverly concealed.
Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of Millicent Adhiambo and Melvin Achieng, who are believed to be connected to the consignment. The recovered drugs were seized and preserved as exhibits.
DCI lauded members of the public for their cooperation.
“We commend members of the public who continue to volunteer actionable information that is proving invaluable in the fight against narcotics trafficking,” the statement read.
Investigations into the wider trafficking networks are ongoing.
