SAMBURU, August 2026 -Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced that the government has recovered more than 2,000 firearms and 15,000 rounds of ammunition from bandits and terrorists in ongoing security operations.
Speaking during the graduation of 122 elite officers of the Security Operations Group (SOG) in Samburu on Thursday, Murkomen attributed the seizures to “concerted efforts” by the multiagency unit to restore law and order in volatile regions.
“SOG have continued to confront violent extremism, disrupt organised criminal networks, combat cross-border threats and curb drug trafficking, among other crimes.”
The CS said the unit has been instrumental in reducing banditry, particularly in the Kerio Valley, noting that communities in previously banditry-prone areas are now “going about their lives without fear.”
“At Kamanga, Samburu County, I was pleased to see firsthand the rigorous training that makes SOG effective and some of the results of their good work.”
Murkomen pledged continued investment in modernizing security infrastructure, equipping officers and improving their welfare.
The ceremony was attended by NIS Director General Noordin Haji, Deputy Inspector General (APS) Gilbert Masengeli and other senior security officials.
