KISUMU, Thursday, May 14th –The Kano Council of Elders has declared its unanimous support for Kisumu Central Constituency MP Dr Joshua Oron in the race for the county’s top seat, describing his bid as non-negotiable.

Following a consultative meeting on Thursday, the council issued a six-point resolution endorsing Oron’s gubernatorial candidacy, citing his development track record as a key factor.

“As a community, our resolve to support Dr. Oron is firmly entrenched. We appeal for unity in this course as we usher in the campaign season,” said Benard Jel, the council’s secretary.

Jel called on all community stakeholders to rally behind Dr Oron, whom he described as poised to become the third governor of Kisumu County.

While welcoming other aspirants seeking various political positions, the council maintained that the governor’s seat is reserved for Dr Oron.

“Other candidates for various positions are welcome among us, but our non-negotiable demand is the position of governor,” Jel asserted.

The elders further demanded that any politician visiting the Kano region to campaign must accord Dr Oron the respect he deserves.

According to the council, the Kisumu Central legislator will guide any discussions on county leadership for other positions.

“If there will be conversations on leadership of the county for other positions, it is Dr. Oron who will guide us how to navigate that because he is our captain now,” Jel affirmed.

In a separate resolution, the council endorsed Mr. Patrick Ouya as its new patron.

The Kisumu Central MP has previously received backing from other Kano clans, including Kakola, Kochogo, and Kobura.

The Kisumu gubernatorial race is gaining momentum, with other seasoned politicians eyeing the seat. They include; Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor, Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda, Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili and Kisumu County MP Ruth Odinga.

The ODM primaries, expected in ten months, will be critical in determining the party’s flagbearer as party members and supporters keenly watching the Oburu led administration to deliver credible nominations.
