It was all smiles as Kisumu Juakali Artisans received a major trade boost amounting to Sh 15M from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) kitty.
The assortment of working tools comprised 10 toolboxes, 14 welding machines, carwash machines, high-pressure pumps, and lathe machines.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, Kisumu County Women Representative, Hon. Ruth Odinga emphasized that the tools are set to improve efficiency, and boost their returns.
“This initiative is meant to support you, and it will also create more job opportunities for the youth and women. My office is keen on supplying more machines based on your needs,” she assured at juakali grounds yesterday.
The county womens boss reiterated that her administration is keen on serving all the residents irrespective of their political affiliations, tribe, race or religious beliefs.
Similarly, nine cheques were issued to nine different groups within the sector to boost their Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

While urging the juakali artisans to turn out in large numbers to be upskilled, Ms. Odinga revealed that about 150 artisans have enrolled in the Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR/RPL)program.
“I started this Government Grade Test program in the county because most of you come from low-income families and faced many challenges to complete school. We are ready to sponsor you to learn up to university levels through your commitment,” she said of courses being undertaken in partnership with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
The PLAR allows individuals to gain formal recognition for their existing skills and knowledge, potentially leading to qualifications or certifications matching their abilities.
She expressed her satisfaction with the current cohort of students who have exhibited a lot of passion in their Certificate and Diploma course work.
Odinga called for continued collaboration between the leaders and juakali artisans to spur socio-economic growth in the county.
Ms. Odinga was accompanied by city aspirant Hon. Edward Onyango (aka Bob CEO), who is eyeing the Kisumu Central Member of Parliament seat in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
“Our juakali artisans are always worried about the perennial land relocation issue. I would like to request Hon.Odinga to work tirelessly and ensure that this land issue comes to its logical conclusion,” he said while suggesting that the land parcel should be subdivided to the current occupants.
Several beneficiaries lauded Ms.Odinga’s move, pointing out that it will greatly enhance their competitiveness and boost production.
