Kisumu Police Recover Shell of Stolen Motor Vehicle In West Kajulu Thicket

WEST KAJULU, October 10th –In a heightened war against car thieves, Kisumu police officers have recovered a shell of a suspected stolen motor vehicle in a thicket in West Kajulu location, Kajulu Division.

They acted on intelligence from the area chief Mr Tobias Ochieng, who reported the matter on a phone call to the Gita police station.

Mr Ochieng revealed that residents of Kamenya village had spotted a burnt shell of a motor vehicle in a thicket.

According to Kisumu East OCPD, Mr Edward Wafula, police officers from the Mamboleo police post, accompanied by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Kisumu East sub-county and crime scene personnel from Kisumu County headquarters, under the command of the OCPP-Mamboleo, had swiftly responded to the call by visiting the mentioned scene.

Preliminary information from the locals, he said, revealed that the main suspect in the act, Mr Dren Onyango, had stolen the vehicle from Kitale and brought it home on Tuesday, October 7th, at 3am.

Later in the day, the suspect brought in mechanics who removed the engine and all auxiliary parts of the vehicle, leaving a shell which they later burnt and dumped in a thicket.

He said the parts were transported to an unknown destination as second-hand spare parts.

Mr Wafula further said that upon search in the suspect’s homestead, a pair of number plates with registration number KBL 866V was retrieved from a pit latrine having been dumped there.

The vehicle which is baradoa white in colour, was reported stolen by the owner, Mr Geoffrey Kiprop, in Trans Nzoia County (OB. No. 83/30/9/2025).

The suspect has gone missing since 8th October 2025.

The scene was processed, documented and photographed by the CSI personnel as the burnt shell was towed to the Mamboleo police post yard as investigations still go on.

This happens at a time when Kisumu East police officers are on a crackdown on a stolen vehicles syndicate, as three suspects are now in custody, and the total number of vehicles recovered so far has risen to 15.
