KISUMU, 18th Sept 2026 — Kisumu County will host the 7th edition of the County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) Games, scheduled from October 25th to 31st, 2026.
The official handover ceremony from Meru County, the previous host, took place today at the new County Assembly building.
Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o welcomed the selection of Kisumu, expressing that the county is prepared to host over 10,000 participants from all 47 counties.
“The lakeside city is ready to display its hospitality, sporting talent, and vibrant culture to the entire country,” he stated.
In a speech read on his behalf by Deputy Governor Dr Mathew Owili, Prof. Nyong’o stated that Kisumu is honoured to host and is committed to making this edition memorable.
Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro officially received the CASA county chain from Meru County, represented by Hon. Julius Miriti. This handover signifies the official approval for Kisumu to host and makes Hon. Oraro the patron of this year’s games.
The event was attended by CASA Chair Peter Imwatok, CASA Secretary General Benard Omboko, County Assembly Speakers Hon. Emmanuel Shituma (Bungoma), Cosmas Korir (Bomet), Joel Maina (Nakuru), and Kakamega Deputy Speaker Benard Shitiabayi, along with MCAs, clerks, and staff from participating counties.
Governor Nyong’o highlighted that beyond sports, the CASA Games offer Kisumu the chance to establish itself as a leading destination for sports tourism, MICE, business events, leisure, and cultural experiences.
He mentioned that delegates will experience Kisumu’s diverse attractions, from Lake Victoria’s shores to its cultural and heritage sites, lively entertainment, warm hospitality, and expanding conference facilities.
“The games will showcase not only our sporting skills but also our rich culture, hospitality, and tourism potential. Kisumu is ready to provide memorable experiences both on and off the field,” the Governor affirmed.
Prof Nyong’o also noted that hosting the games supports his government’s goal to boost the local economy through tourism, hospitality, and the creative sector.
Kisumu expects to benefit greatly from the event, as thousands of delegates will visit the city, boosting hotels, transportation, small businesses, entertainment venues, and creating temporary jobs for youth.
The events will take place at various sporting venues across the county, bringing together Members and staff of all 47 County Assemblies to engage in sports, foster unity, and exchange ideas on legislation, representation, and oversight.
CASA Chair Peter Imwatok expressed confidence in Kisumu’s readiness to deliver a successful tournament.
Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro promised a warm welcome, stating, “Kisumu is officially ready” for the 7th CASA Games.
The ceremony also saw the official unveiling of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) comprising the County Government of Kisumu and County Assembly.
The Directorate of Tourism announced it will collaborate with the County Assembly to ensure delegates enjoy memorable experiences beyond sports, further establishing Kisumu as a lakeside tourism and events hub. Photo by James Keyi
