Leaders Rally for Unity, Devt and Peace as 2027 Polls Approach

Nyando,4th July 2026 -Interior Security and National Administration Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Raymond Omollo has called for national unity and calm among the youth as the country gears up for the 2027 General Election, emphasizing that development and security are intertwined for Kenya’s progress.

Speaking during a women’s empowerment event in Nyando Constituency, Dr Omollo highlighted the government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions, citing major infrastructure and flood mitigation projects underway.

“We are talking of projects in excess of Sh220 billion in Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori. For the first time, we are seeing that kind of investment. It speaks to the leadership of President William Ruto, and he is very deliberate about it,” Dr Omollo stated .

The PS noted that the perennial flooding challenge in Nyando is finally being addressed, with 14 kilometers of the required 30 kilometers of dykes already completed through the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA), and an additional 10 kilometres budgeted for this financial year. He urged young people to remain peaceful and avoid being used to fuel political violence.

“Strikes and demonstrations are rights guaranteed by the Constitution. As long as those involved remain within the confines of the law, we too, as security actors, will play our part responsibly,” he said, while warning against political incitement.

He,however, emphasized that a stable environment is vital for continued development and economic growth.

ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga reaffirmed the party’s partnership with President Ruto’s administration, describing it as a strategic vehicle for empowering communities at the grassroots level.

“I want to appreciate President Ruto for his intentional approach to equitable development of every part of the country, especially regions that were traditionally neglected as a result of skewed allocation of resources,” Dr Oburu remarked.

He stressed that unity within ODM is key to securing a meaningful coalition and retaining political influence. “Our strength lies in our unity, and we must unite in order to capture power,” he said .

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, who recently donated Sh10 million to a women’s empowerment initiative in Migori, defended the contribution, dismissing critics who questioned the donation.

“I was elected to connect my people to opportunities, and fundraisers are part of empowering women to be self-reliant on entrepreneurship,” said Junet.

He reiterated that ODM stands ready to support President Ruto’s re-election, adding, “Today we made the case for unity in our region to ensure our people approach next year’s polls as one people with one goal: to entrench in government and deliver development to our people” .

The leaders collectively called on residents to register as voters, with Dr. Omollo noting that voter registration is ongoing, as the nation prepares for the 2027 polls.
