LSK Western Kenya Condemns Assassination of City Lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, Demands Justice

KISUMU, Kenya September 12th –The Law Society of Kenya’s Western Kenya (LSK) branch is in a state of profound grief and outrage following the cold-blooded assassination of their distinguished colleague, Senior Counsel Kyalo Mbobu.

The lawyer was shot dead by a gunman on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 7:30 pm along Magadi Road in Nairobi.

According to the postmortem report conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor on September 11, Mbobu was shot eight times on the head and died due to excessive bleeding, with two bullets recovered from his head.

The LSK is condemning the murder, describing it as a calculated hit on a man who dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice.

Addressing the media in Kisumu at the Kisumu Law Courts on September 12, LSK Western Branch Chairperson Grace Otieno expressed shock and fear over the heinous act, which has cast a dark shadow over the community.

Otieno emphasised that the brutal killing of an advocate serves as a stark reminder of the dangerous environment in which lawyers operate, particularly those handling sensitive cases involving land disputes, corruption, and human rights violations.

“The murder of Senior Counsel Mbobu tells us that these threats are not empty; they are real and are being carried out with brazen impunity,” Otieno said.

The LSK is demanding action from the National Police Service to expedite a transparent investigation into the assassination and speed up the arrests and prosecution of the perpetrators.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has made progress in the probe, identifying suspects and impounding vehicles for forensic analysis. Detectives are relying on phone data and CCTV footage to unravel the communication between the suspects and the slain lawyer.

According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the authorities are working around the clock to find out the motive behind the cold-blooded murder.

The LSK also calls for enhanced security measures to protect lawyers, advocates, and judges as they discharge their duties.

On his part, Vincent Kithega, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, emphasised the need for the government to address the rising insecurity in the country, particularly in Nairobi, where gangs are terrorising residents.
