KISUMU CBD, 25th December -The streets of Kisumu Central’s Business District erupted in pomp, grandeur and generosity as Area Member of Parliament, Dr Joshua Oron, hosted his annual Christmas celebration for the community, bringing huge smiles to residents and street children alike.
For the 19th consecutive year, the day-long event was a symphony of fun, food, and music galore with trendy tunes of local artists belted out from the huge speakers. It created a festive soundscape that saw Dr Oron himself joining the ecstatic crowd in dance.
Beyond the entertainment, the air was rich with the aroma of varied food delicacies served throughout the day, starting with an unusual and special breakfast. A standout feature was a standby barbershop that offered free, cute hairstyles and shaves, ensuring attendees not only felt nourished but also looked their best.

While the event provided immediate holiday joy, Dr Oron emphasised its deeper purpose: “This is not only about feeding,” he stated, noting it was an opportunity to identify street families and vulnerable children for longer-term support, including reintegration into communities, schooling, and technical training.
He extended a general message of gratitude and encouragement, urging all leaders to use such occasions to support the less fortunate.

Turning to politics, the MP offered pointed comments to his fellow ODM members. Consoling the gathering on their first Christmas in years without party icon Raila Odinga, he highlighted being left in a “broad-based government” under President William Ruto.
He urged, “I would want to encourage the other leaders that we remain in a broad-based government beyond 2027. That new government, I would want to wish our people to remain in it, and that is the government for Dr William Ruto, the president.”

The MP’s commitment, which began nearly two decades before his election, was praised by Irene Onoka who heads Ongima Community Based Organisation that co-partnered with Kisumu Central office in organising the event and beneficiaries.
“We always support the less fortunate in society and it’s nice to team up with like-minded leaders such as Dr Joshua Oron,” Ms Onoka expressed her enthusiasm.
Musa, a representative of children living on the streets, captured the hearts of many enthusiasts with his sentiment: “Sharing is caring… we are together very grateful for his thanks always, remembering us when others are not there with us.”
