KISUMU, May 2026 –Kisumu Central Constituency Member of Parliament Dr Joshua Oron has intensified his campaign for the Kisumu county governorship, rallying the expansive Kano political bloc behind his 2027 bid while touting his track record in education, health and economic empowerment.
Speaking on Saturday in Korowe, Nyando sub-county, Oron called on his Kano stronghold to register as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party members and voters, positioning the party as the vehicle for negotiating power and resources in next year’s polls.
“Even as we move around to campaign for various seats, I want to reaffirm my commitment to strengthening our party ODM at the grassroots as a vehicle we will use to negotiate for power and resources in 2027,” Oron said.
The legislator emphasised that backing ODM’s top leadership, including Dr Oburu Oginga and National Chairperson Gladys Wanga, remains a priority, noting that defending the party and building formidable grassroots structures is critical.

Oron, who seeks to succeed Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o, highlighted educational initiatives in Nyando that have positively impacted young people, including the construction of Kochogo High, Alendu, and Oreng primary schools through his NGO networks.
“I am not seeking to become governor because of the trappings of power, but I want to leverage the position to put up more centres of excellence in every sub-county,” Oron said, adding that over 30,000 students he sponsored are now contributing to growing the economy.
His growing political machinery received a major boost after the Kano Council of Elders threw its weight behind his bid, with local leaders and stakeholders aligning with his ideologies. The legislator already commands strong support from Seme, Nyando, Muhoroni, Kisumu Central, and Kisumu East.
Oron was accompanied by Muhoroni MP James Koyoo and several members of the county assembly.
He joins a competitive race that includes Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda, Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor, Deputy Governor Dr Mathews Owili, and Kisumu County MP Ruth Odinga.
