KISUMU, March 2026 –Kisumu West is poised for an economic revival following the official launch of the Sh950 million Holo-Lela road, a 12-kilometre infrastructure project flagged off by President William Ruto.
The road, set for completion in nine months, is part of a broader Sh5 billion investment by the national government to upgrade the road network in Kisumu County within this financial year.
The project is expected to enhance connectivity and spur trade, complementing the Sh70 million Holo Modern Market, which is currently at 50 percent completion under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Kisumu West Member of Parliament Rosa Buyu lauded the President’s commitment to ending historical marginalisation, noting that successive administrations had for 40 years failed to tarmac the critical route.
“Mr President, you have shown us nothing but love in Kisumu West. Successive regimes have in the last 40 years pledged to tarmac this Holo-Lela road in vain, but you have made it a reality,” Buyu stated.

The legislator reaffirmed political support for the Head of State, linking the administration’s deliberate development agenda to future electoral returns.
“Mr President, for avoidance of doubt I want to reiterate here that your commitment to be intentional about developing Kisumu County and Nyanza region with tangible projects will be rewarded in due course,” Buyu assured.
Buyu highlighted a raft of ongoing projects in her constituency, including four ESP markets, 2,500 hostels for Maseno University, 1,500 units for Riat Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) College and a well-equipped Huduma Centre at Ojolla Centre.

Beyond roads, the Ruto-led administration has allocated Sh9.5 billion to blue economy projects along Lake Victoria, including the construction of 10 landing sites in various beaches to boost fisheries and livelihoods.
The Head of State’s five-day development tour of Nyanza, which concludes Tuesday, has also showcased mega infrastructure projects such as the Sh549 billion Naivasha-Kisumu-Malaba Standard Gauge Railway, which will birth a logistics hub in Kisumu City to facilitate regional trade among partner states.
