Governor Barasa Launches Countywide Distribution of Free Farm Inputs to Vulnerable Groups

Kakamega County  Governor Fernandes Barasa launched the countywide distribution of free planting fertilizer and maize seeds with a laser focus on low-income families, widows, women, and Persons with Disabilities recently.

The distribution program is geared towards enhancing the county’s food basket by empowering 283,000 small-scale farmers in the county’s 60 wards.

“We also seek to empower vulnerable groups to engage in food production and uplift their way of life”, Barasa reiterated in his addresses to the residents at the events.

The exercise was kick-started in Matungu and has also been rolled out in Mumias West and Lurambi Sub-Counties.

To enhance the Last-Mile Delivery of Fertilizer to all the wards level, Governor Barasa further announced that his administration has reached an agreement with the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

“In the deal, the distribution will start at the sub-county level this year and is expected to extend to the ward level in 2026. This will ease accessibility of fertilizers and maize seeds to our farmers,” he said.
