Ong’eche-Nyando, Kisumu – Cabinet Secretary of Energy and Petroleum, Opiyo Wandayi, recently commissioned a series of projects worth Sh20,700,000 in Kisumu and Siaya Counties.
Over two days, secondary schools Ong’eche (Nyando), Ida Odinga Girls (Kisumu), and Rang’ala (Ugunja) will benefit from the establishment of a new computer laboratory, a block containing twin laboratories, and a school bus, respectively.
During the official opening ceremony at Ong’eche School, CS Wandayi expressed his pleasure at the positive impact the new Sh 5 million computer laboratory has had on student enrollment.
“It will equip learners with essential skills in advanced technologies—a critical factor in the ever-evolving cyberspace of production and innovation,” he stated.
For the first time, with over 15 computers at their disposal, the school will present candidates for Computer Studies in the 2026 KCSE exams.
Hon. Wandayi emphasised, “As a demonstration of resource sharing, the new facility has also positively influenced junior secondary students from nearby schools, broadening its impact.”
These initiatives are part of key educational projects launched by the Kenya Pipeline Foundation Corporate Social Investment (KPC).
In the past, KPC has invested Sh26 million in education infrastructure in the Nyanza region, a demonstration of good collaboration between the public and private sectors towards a shared vision.
Additionally, the unveiling of a block housing twin laboratories and a classroom for Sh5 million will enhance the infrastructure at Ida Odinga Girls’ School.
The Sh10.7 million new bus at Rang’ala Boys’ School will allow students to participate more actively in academic and co-curricular activities.
CS Wandayi noted that reliable transportation is crucial for helping students access comprehensive learning experiences that contribute to their character development and skill acquisition.
In previous years, KPC has invested Sh26 million in educational infrastructure in the Nyanza region, showcasing effective collaboration between the public and private sectors toward a shared vision.
Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The government is committed to fostering synergies that promote continuous and sustainable development across various sectors.

“These are not one-off donations but rather legacies that will benefit generations,” CS Wandayi stated, highlighting the government’s focus on education, health, water, and sanitation as aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the realisation of Vision 2030.
The ministry acknowledges that access to reliable infrastructure, digital tools, and safe learning environments is essential for achieving our national objectives of quality education and inclusive growth.
“We stand ready to partner with all stakeholders to ensure no child is left behind.”
Wandayi encouraged teachers, students, and the wider community to embrace, maintain, and utilise these facilities to unlock new possibilities.
“Let these facilities serve as stepping stones for innovation, hard work, and exceptional achievement.”
He also called on other corporate organisations to invest in the development of our communities.
“Sustainable development is a collective effort—when we invest in people, everyone benefits.”
Education Transforms Lives
Notably, KPC has also completed several educational projects, including a 100-capacity dormitory at Siburi Mixed Secondary School in Homabay, two classrooms at Lambwe Special School, and a dormitory and laboratory at Simbi Secondary School.
Other projects include an administration and ablution block at Kowuor Primary School, a multipurpose hall at St. Mary’s School, and various schools in Homa Bay and Siaya.
These educational investments inspire hope, opportunity, and the belief that “every child deserves a conducive environment to dream and achieve.”
Wandayi urged the youth to seize the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream big, emphasising that education is the most powerful tool for transforming lives and the futures of families and communities.
The event was also attended by the KPC Foundation Board of Trustees, school administrators, staff, and students.
