Over 1,000 Obunga, Nyawita Residents Benefit from Free Medical Services

OBUNGA, Kisumu Central, 17th August –More than 1,000 residents of Nyawita and Obunga in Railways ward Kisumu have received medical services and medicine.

The free medical camp at Nyawita Grounds was part of Bob CEO Foundation’s long-term Community Service Responsibility(CSR), aimed at giving a helping hand to the less fortunate and those in need of medical services in society.

According to the foundation’s director, Kavin Makavi, they saw it wise to offer the medical camp to the community living in the sprawling Kondele and Obunga, Nyawita and Kondele Slums.

“Most of them struggle to get access to healthcare, especially malaria, which was identified as the most communicable disease in Kisumu County. This is coupled with the ongoing long rains-related ailments, which have been a concern, especially to the middle-aged persons in the society,” he said.

Makavi added that Voice of Hope SDA Church Partners is conducting the exercise in collaboration with Kisumu businessman Bob Onyango, Ceo and Management, and local Medical Health Personnel from Western Heart and Cancer Care Medical Partners, who supported the initiative.

Similarly, during the exercise, residents were also sensitised on education and distributed free medicines.

Additionally, they offered several health services such as free screening for hypertension, diabetes and immunisation against other communicable and non-communicable diseases(NCDs)

Other included diabetes, free treatment of minor illness of both children and adults, HIV testing and awareness, immunization services, eye services, family planning issues among others cervical cancer screening, and free SHA registration.

Severe cases were referred to other health facilities, with a commitment to make a follow-up by providing the much-needed financial support.

On his part, businessman Onyango said that they have been undertaking similar initiatives in various sprawling slums of Kisumu and its environs for years.

“Medical camps play a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services, promoting health awareness, and improving access to healthcare for underserved populations,” Bob Onyango emphasised.
