KISUMU, Kenya August 25th –Kisumu security agencies earlier today moved swiftly to convene a high-profile meeting to bring peace, law and order among warring factions who were involved in revenge clashes in Kisumu over the weekend.
It brought together Kisumu County Boda Boda operators, members of the civil society organisation (CSOs)and security chiefs from the area.
During the weekend skirmishes, at least one person was killed.
Kisumu County Police Commander, Mr Hilary Toroitich, who chaired the meeting, said that all the warring factions had agreed to stop hostilities and would instead preach reconciliation.
The officer said that those who were involved in criminal acts will, however, not be spared.

Trouble started in Kibos after a youth popularly known as Troon was murdered by people suspected to be members of another gang.
The act drew the ire of the other faction, which went on a revenge mission in the adjacent estates, hence causing tension over the weekend.

Mr Ochieng urged his members to stay calm as the offices are being built afresh, urging his members not to take the law into their own hands.

Human rights defender Audi Ogada, who attended the meeting, called on the two sides to embrace peace.
He said those involved in violent acts must be brought to book. Ogada commended Mr Toroitich for moving swiftly to contain the situation.
