“I am so happy. Coming here, I said I don’t have a gold medal from the World Championships, so I have to go for it. And I got it. I just want to thank everyone who supported me,” Chebet said, with a tinge of joy.
TOKYO, Japan, September 13th -In a stunning display of speed and endurance, Beatrice Chebet romped to the finish line in style to win the women’s 10,000m title at the 2025 Tokyo World Athletics Championships earlier today.
Focused and calculative, Chebet outpaced her opponents in the last 200 meters with a devastating kick, crossing the line in 30:37.61 to claim Kenya’s first gold medal at the championships.
“I am so happy. Coming here, I said I don’t have a gold medal from the World Championships, so I have to go for it. And I got it. I just want to thank everyone who supported me,” she said in her post-race interview.
Italy’s Nadia Batocletti came second by clocking 30:38.23 (national record), and a podium finish by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay 30:39.65.

Japan’s Ririka Hironaka later took charge, but the Kenyan duo increased the pace, setting up a thrilling finish.
With half a lap remaining, Chebet overtook Gudaf Tsegay, the defending champion, and employed her bullet kick to clinch her first world track title.
With this victory, Chebet is now setting her sights on becoming the first athlete to win both the 5000m and 10,000m events at the World Championships since Mo Farah in 2015.
