Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Beatrice Chebet, Faith Kipyegon Shines As Kenya’s Medals Tally Soars in Tokyo 25

TOKYO, Japan September 20th-In a blistering form, Emmanuel Wanyonyi,21, ran a championship record of 1:41.86 to win the 800m title at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25.

This gold medal added to his Paris Olympic 2024 title, as he waded off strong challenge from title defender Marco Arop(Canada)and Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati. 

Sedjati came second to bag silver in 1:41.90 and Arop followed closely to get bronze in 1:41.95.

In the 5,000m race, golden feet Beatrice Chebet clocked 14:54.36 to win at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo today.

Chebet,25, who took 10,000m gold last Saturday, shrugged off stiff opposition from his compatriot Faith Kipyegon to win Kenya’s battle royale for the race.

The indefatigable Faith came a close second to register a time of 14:55.07.

In the homestretch of 60metres, Chebet, sprinted past 1500m heroine eased past Kipyegon to complete the long-distance double.

She has recorded a total dominance in the 5000m and 10,000m race without facing defeat in the global championships for the two years, including a memorable double at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Italy’s Nadia Battocletti bagged the bronze medal clocking a time of 14:55.42, with USA’s Shelby Houlihan settling for fourth place (14:57:42) and Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay for fifth position 14:57.82.
