KISUMU, Kenya –Police officers based in Kisumu Central police station have recovered 65 kg of cannabis sativa worth Sh2 million, packaged into parcels that were destined for Mombasa from Ugunja, allegedly via the Nyamira Express bus. The package also contained about five tilapia fish and two SIM cards.
Kisumu Central Sub-County OCPD Mr Peter Mulai, who confirmed during his address to the media at Kisumu central police station over the incident, said the matter was reported by a member of the public.
Mr Saul Ndege, who is a driver at Nyamira Express Company, while at the Kisumu Guardian Angel office at around 17:30 hours on Wednesday, 3rd of December, noticed a suspicious consignment.
The driver further revealed that the consignment had been picked up from Ugunja in Siaya County, along the Busia-Kisumu highway, destined for Mombasa, containing two large cartons and three suitcases.
“Police officer led by myself, Mr Joseph Wambua SCCIO and Kisumu central police station OCS, Mr Matheka, among other police officers, visited the scene, and it was established that the consignment was indeed two big cartons and three suitcases,” Mulai said.

Upon opening, he further revealed that it was established that the contents were a psychotropic substance (Bhang ).
” The scene was processed by CSI officers and escorted to Kisumu central police station for safe custody as investigations commence, “Mulai added.
The consignment weighed 65.45 kgs and had a street value of Sh2 million. Officers are now on hot pursuit to arrest the consignee and the consigner whose details were indicated in one of the cartons.
