KASARANI, Nairobi, June 29,-Boniface Ngaira Ambani has been elected the new AFC Leopards Chairman for a four-year term to replace Dan Shikanda who has held the position since 2019.
The former Harambee Stars and Ingwe prolific striker trounced his sole challenger, Vincent Enos Mutoka, during a Special General Meeting (SGM) held at the Stadion Hotel Ballroom in Kasarani yesterday.
Out of the total 1,783 votes cast, Ambani garnered 1,101 votes against Mutoka’s 682 in an election conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The eligible 2,706 Ingwe delegates had a chance to fill three positions (Chairman, Secretary General, and Treasurer), out of the eight election candidates.

Messrs Ambani and Mutoka belonged to the Diaspora and Legends Branches respectively.
To complete the composition of AFC’s National Executive Committee, Isaac Mulanda Mulindi bagged the Secretary General’s post after whitewashing Irine Wekesa Sitawa and Robert Omusawa Khamala both of the Facebook Branch.
Newton Lime Luchacha will be in charge of Ingwe’s purse strings after clinching the Treasurer’s position.
Buruburu branch’s Luchacha shrugged off stiff opposition from Edwin Chamwada Buhasho (Kariobangi Branch), and Patrick Kanyangi Logedi (Kiambiu Salem Branch).
Ambani’s history with Ingwe includes previously managing the club’s youth side and being in the squad which won the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League in 1998.
He also played for Tanzania’s Yanga FC, and later had a short stint as the tactician of FKF-PL Mara Sugar FC in 2024.

During his Ipo Siku campaign trail for the AFC top seat, Ambani advocated for Transparent Governance, Financial Sustainability, On-Field Excellence, Community and Fan Engagement, Women’s and Youth Football Development.
The outgoing Shikanda-led team comprised the late Gilbert Andugu (Secretary General), Oliver Napali (Treasurer), Caroline Walusaga and Dianna Obayi (Committee Members).
