Homabay, July 2026 -Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary (PS) Dr Raymond Omollo has appealed to religious leaders across the country to safeguard the sanctity of places of worship from being hijacked by divisive political agendas.
Speaking during a Sunday service at St Pascal Catholic Church in Chiga, Homa Bay County, Dr Omollo said that church pulpits must remain sanctuaries of spiritual nourishment rather than platforms for leaders who propagate hatred, tribalism and national disunity.
“Let us not desecrate our churches by allowing platforms meant for spiritual nourishment to be used to spread division and hatred. The Church must continue standing for truth, peace and unity,” the PS asserted.
The Interior PS emphasized that religious institutions bear a profound responsibility in shaping societal values and fostering harmony within communities.
He called upon the clergy to exercise discernment in granting access to their pulpits, warning against providing space for leaders whose rhetoric threatens the country’s fragile unity.
Dr Omollo observed that Kenya’s progress hinges on leaders and citizens embracing inclusivity while rejecting politics that seek to divide communities along ethnic, regional, or political lines.
“You cannot have a country where one part develops while others remain stagnant. We must nurture a nation where someone born in Homa Bay has the same chance to succeed as someone born in Mombasa, Garissa, or Nairobi, an opportunity to flourish regardless of their background,” he stated.

He commended the Catholic Church for its longstanding contribution to national development through investments in education, healthcare, and social services, describing it as one of the Government’s strongest partners in advancing community well-being.
The PS further lauded President William Ruto’s administration for pursuing an inclusive development agenda ensuring all regions benefit from government programmes regardless of political affiliation.
He urged Kenyans to continue working together in building a united and prosperous nation, adding that development can only thrive in an environment where citizens respect one another and embrace their shared Kenyan identity.
The service was also attended by ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga, Governor Gladys Wanga, Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, and several other national and county leaders.
