Crime Busters: Police Solve 71 Cases in Just 4 Months

The Inspector General of Police (IG), Douglas Kanja, has reported that they have successfully investigated and concluded 71 criminal cases over the past four months.

These milestones, he emphasised, were made possible by the unwavering commitment of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which has been at the forefront of these efforts.

In a statement released on Friday, May 16th, IG Kanja reiterated the National Police Service’s dedication to public safety and national security through thorough and timely investigations.

The criminal cases addressed by the police encompass a wide range of serious offences, like armed robberies, theft of goods in transit, murder, and defilement.

Others are trafficking in firearms, ammunition, narcotics, and human beings.

The National Police Boss stated that this diversity of crimes reflects the complex security challenges facing the country.

“They require a committed and multifaceted response from law enforcement. The Directorate’s diligent work ensures that every reported case is handled swiftly and thoroughly.”

This, ultimately, brings perpetrators to justice and provides closure to victims and their families.

Among the resolved cases are several high-profile investigations that have garnered public attention due to their sensitivity and impact.

Notably, investigations into crimes involving officials from the Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Co-operatives (KUSCCO) have been concluded.

“This underscores the importance of maintaining integrity and trust within financial institutions for the benefit of members and customers.”

IG Kanja further clarified that the law enforcers have successfully solved cases involving the deaths of individuals like Silvia Kemunto, a student at Multimedia University, and Campbell Alistair Scott.

Their deaths had previously raised concerns in their respective communities and are among those solved.

Additionally, the murder case of Aisha Abubakar, an official with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in Kilifi, has been thoroughly investigated, bringing some relief to those seeking answers.

The police acted swiftly and arrested four suspects, who were subsequently arraigned in court following the daring home invasion and robbery targeting a Korean missionary couple at the Elmarba Full Gospel Church in Oloililai, Kajiado County.

IG Kanja emphasised that, “This incident underscores the police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and religious communities from crime.

Similarly, the police have reported significant progress in the investigation surrounding the murder of Kasipul MP Hon Charles Ong’ondo Were.

“Hon Were’s murder case remains a priority for the police as they work towards finalising the investigation. We are encouraging our citizens to continue offering information that will lead to the apprehension of those responsible,” IG Kanja assured.

According to IG Kanja, these successes are credited to community cooperation and technological upgrades in crime tracking and forensics.

“The National Police Service remains steadfast in its mission to protect citizens, uphold the rule of law, and maintain peace and security across the country,” the statement concludes in part.
