DP Kindiki Urges Tolerance for New IEBC Team, Highlights Major Devt

GOKEHARAKA, Kuria East July 15 –Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to exercise patience and support the newly appointed team at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), assuring the public of the Commission’s readiness to do good work ahead of the upcoming elections.

Speaking in Gokeharaka, Kuria East Sub County, over the weekend, Prof Kindiki emphasised the importance of giving the newly sworn-in IEBC commissioners time and space to execute their mandate effectively.

There is no cause for alarm. The IEBC is now fully constituted and ready to deliver on its constitutional responsibilities. Let us give them a chance to work,” said Prof Kindiki.

His remarks come just days after Chief Justice Martha Koome officiated the swearing-in of the seven-member commission comprising six commissioners and new chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon at the Supreme Court on July 11.

The appointments were formally gazetted by President William Ruto, following a High Court ruling which cleared the way for the reconstitution of the Commission.

Turning to development, Prof. Kindiki outlined several government initiatives aimed at accelerating economic transformation in Migori County and surrounding regions.

He affirmed the administration’s commitment to reviving and completing stalled road projects while initiating new infrastructure to drive grassroots economic growth.

Among the priority projects is the 78-kilometre Taranganya-Ntimaro-Nyamtiro Road and the One-Stop Border Post in Kegonga, which the Deputy President said will significantly enhance cross-border trade and economic activity in the region.

He also announced that the Kugitimo-Loliondo B1 Road, with a budget allocation of Sh3.5 billion, is set to begin soon.

“Once complete, this road will be a game-changer, boosting trade not only within Migori County but also connecting it more effectively with neighbouring counties and the wider East African Community,” he said.

The Deputy President further revealed that 17,000 additional households in Migori County will be connected to the national power grid under the ongoing last-mile electricity connectivity programme.

A total of Sh1.6 billion has been earmarked for this initiative, with Sh 311 million specifically allocated to connect 4,000 new households in Kuria East Constituency.

Kindiki also took part in the Kuria East Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme, aimed at supporting women-led SACCOs and micro-enterprises in alignment with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

This programme is about real empowerment. It ensures that women and small-scale entrepreneurs at the grassroots are equipped with the resources they need to drive sustainable growth in their communities,” he said.

Migori Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko welcomed the Deputy President’s visit, noting that the empowerment initiatives reflect a shared commitment to inclusive development.

The focus on women, youth, and persons with disabilities is commendable. It aligns with our vision of building resilient and empowered communities,” said the governor.

Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama also expressed gratitude to the national government, emphasising that the Kuria community remains committed to supporting the government’s development agenda.

“We are grateful for this empowerment initiative. It is a testament to the administration’s dedication to uplifting the economic standards of the Kuria people,” Kitayama stated.

The event was attended by a high-level delegation including Principal Secretary for Social Protection Joseph Motari, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro, and several local leaders from Migori County.

Kitayama urged Kenyans to tone down political rhetoric and focus on supporting the government’s development agenda, affirming that the Kuria community will rally behind President William Ruto in the 2027 General Elections.

Kitayama praised the government’s ongoing infrastructure and economic initiatives in the region. He called on the Abakuria to show their appreciation by backing President Ruto at the ballot.

The projects are here amidst you. They aren’t lies. Prepare to reciprocate the good gesture come the 2027 ballot,” said the Kuria East MP.

He emphasised that the visible implementation of roads, electricity connections, and empowerment programs was a direct result of the community’s support for the Kenya Kwanza administration and should not be taken for granted.

Echoing the MP’s sentiments, Deputy President Kindiki also appealed to residents to stand with the ruling coalition in the next election cycle, arguing that continued political stability and loyalty would ensure that the region remains a priority in state development planning.

You will benefit more from government development projects if you remain steadfast in supporting the administration,” Kindiki told the crowd.

The remarks come amid the rollout of multi-billion shilling projects across Migori County, including road construction, power connectivity, and economic empowerment programs, which leaders say signal the government’s commitment to grassroots transformation under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
