Four Suspects Arrested As Kisumu Police Recover Pistol Stolen During Raila Odinga’s Burial

MBEME, Kisumu East, October -Kisumu police officers have recovered a stolen pistol that was lost on Sunday, 19th October, during the burial of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Bondo, Siaya County.

Acting on an Intelligence Report, detectives from Kasagam Police Station conducted an operation in Mbeme informal settlement, Kisumu East sub-county, that led to the arrest of four suspects.

The suspects were identified as Timothy Odhiambo, David Beckham, Tonny Blair Omondi, and Harrun Ibrahim.

Confirming the incident, Kisumu East OCPD Mr Edward Wafula said the four young male suspects were found in possession of a pistol believed to have been stolen from a security officer attached to Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa on Sunday, 19th October.

“Today at around 1325 hours, police officers from kasagam police station, led by the OCS Kasagam Mr Daniel Njoka, acting on a tip off from the members of the public, conducted a raid at a house in Mbeme village and during the operation, four suspects were arrested in connection with the theft of a pistol belonging to the bodyguard of the Governor of Kakamega County, Fernandes Barasa on 19th October,2025 during the burial of the late former prime minister Raila Odinga in Bondo, Siaya,” Mr Wafula said.

Upon interrogation, the suspects led the security team to the house of the mother of one of the suspects where the stolen pistol was recovered from the ceiling of the mother’s house.

“In the ensuing scenario, the suspects were subjected to precise interrogation, and the main suspect, Timothy Odhiambo, led the police officers to another house of his mother, which is about 400 meters from his rental house,” Mr Edward Wafula said.

The house, the OCPD further noted, was locked. Still, the police officers gained entry by cutting the padlock, and the suspect led the police team to the kitchen ceiling board, where one firearm, a Jericho of S/No 40309458, was recovered with a magazine loaded with 14 rounds.

The main suspect’s mother, Lilian Atieno Nyabende, a Luo female adult, resurfaced and was also arrested to assist in investigations.

“The firearm is suspected to be the one robbed from the security officer No. 102661, Police Constable Benson Kodia Olayo, a GSU officer based at GSU headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi, Kenya, and currently attached to VIP protection of Kakamega Governor Barasa,” OCPD Wafula confirmed.

It was reported vide Bondo police station OB No 47/19/10/2025 at 1700hours as the serial numbers do tally.

The suspects and the recovered firearms were taken to the Kasagam police station for further processing. They will be presented at the Winam Law Courts on Monday 27th at 10am.
