KIBUYE, Kisumu, 18th November –Kibuye market traders have been urged to remain calm following the events leading to the dramatic arrest and arraignment of their chairperson, Judith Matengo alias Nyaramba, at the Winam Law Courts, Kisumu Central Sub-County, earlier today.
Ms Nyaramba was apprehended for allegedly assaulting one of the female traders in the expansive market in a video which went viral yesterday.
Leading a group of market traders in making a passionate appeal, Nyaori Nyang a renowned political activist and grassroots mobiliser in the Kisumu county said that they respect the courts’ decision on Nyaramba.
“We were in court to offer physical and moral support to our Chairperson Nyaramba, but the organisers of the women empowerment harambee need to understand that these are also voters, and Nyaramba has so many faithful political followers,” they remarked during a presser after the court session.
The traders also decried the manner in which their colleague Nyaramba was brought to court “as if she were a murderer.”
“What happened yesterday was simply a misunderstanding between traders,” they explained as they applauded the police for what they had done.
Similarly, they urged the law enforcement agencies to use the same force and speed to be applied to other criminals engaging in disturbing activities among the area residents.
The case has been adjourned until Monday, 24th November 2025, for further direction, with one of the appellants’ prayers being for the accused to be granted bail when her case comes up.
On the political front, the group reiterated their steadfastness in supporting President William Ruto and Kisumu County gubernatorial seat aspirant Ken Mirenga Obura in the upcoming general elections in 2027.
“We will continue to support the President’s development initiatives in the Nyanza region and his quest for a second term,” they chorused while stressing that their backing of former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura is non-negotiable.
Whereas the Nyaori and Nyaramba-led group indicated their shift of allegiance from their previous political camps, they discounted rumours that they were brought to arrive at the decision.
They promised to carry out peaceful campaigns for their respective candidates in the region.
