Kisumu, 17 May 2026 -ODM delegates from Nyanza have resolved to tighten party structures and rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, as they position the party for the 2027 polls.
At a consultative meeting in a Kisumu hotel on Sunday, leaders from across the region passed four resolutions aimed at strengthening ODM’s grassroots base and preserving unity within the Luo nation and wider Nyanza region.
Led by de facto party leader Dr Oburu Oginga and ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga, the delegates said the party’s strength lies in solidarity, shared heritage, and a common political purpose.
“We therefore call upon all leaders, supporters, and stakeholders to uphold unity, mutual respect, and collective responsibility as the foundation of our progress,” the statement read.

The meeting resolved to re-energise ODM structures at ward, constituency, and county levels through active community engagement, new member recruitment, and stronger communication channels.
Oburu said ODM was open to working with leaders spearheading the Linda Mwananchi campaigns, provided party discipline is upheld.
Delegates also expressed confidence in the party’s national leadership, noting its commitment to democratic ideals, social justice, and inclusive development.

In a notable shift, National Treasury CS John Mbadi and Governor Gladys Wanga led delegates in endorsing President Ruto for a second term.
“Some people are campaigning that ‘Ruto Must Go’… go where?” they posed, urging supporters not to blindly follow other presidential candidates.
They credited Ruto with launching mega projects in Nyanza and across the country, saying the scale exceeded that of previous administrations since independence.
The delegates stressed discipline, loyalty, and adherence to party ideals, pledging to lead by example. They also called on leaders to ensure free and fair nominations ahead of 2027.

The meeting was attended by Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko, Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr Matthew Owili, more than 20 MPs, County Assembly Speakers, and MCAs.
To showcase its national base, ODM’s top leadership announced a mega rally in Kisumu on Sunday, 31 May.
“We call upon all ODM supporters and the people of Nyanza to remain steadfast, united, and focused as we work together to advance our shared political and socio-economic aspirations,” the delegates said.
