Political Tribunal Halts Approval of ODM Nyando Branch Delegates Amid Internal Rifts

NAIROBI, 2nd March,2026 –The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has temporarily halted the approval of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Nyando Sub-County branch delegates’ list following a dispute filed in a Nairobi court.

In an injunction issued during a sitting in Nairobi, the tribunal stopped the ODM National Elections Board from endorsing a contested list of delegates pending the hearing and determination of the case.

The application was filed by Jared Okello, the Nyando Member of Parliament, together with a section of Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from the constituency.

The petitioners through the Case Number (PPDTC/E001/2026) are challenging the party’s decision to approve a list of branch delegates chaired by Ken Ooko, the MCA for Ahero.

In court papers, Okello argues that the party overstepped its mandate by declaring the delegates despite an ongoing dispute.

He contends that the matter had earlier been referred to a harmonisation sub-committee tasked with reconciling two rival factions but claims the committee was not accorded adequate time to mediate the disagreement.

The legislator further accuses the party of bypassing the agreed internal dispute resolution mechanism and unilaterally affirming the list aligned to Ooko before the mediation process was concluded.

Presiding tribunal member Gad Gathu directed that the matter be mentioned on the 16th of March,2026 for further directions, as the injunction remains in force pending the next hearing.
